Distant Voices

Distant Voices
We were hungry
scouring the streets
in the dead of night
Yeah we were crazy
in the summer heat
with no end in sight
We were searching
for a better way
and a better place
And we were dreaming
maybe someday
we’d join the human race.
Distant voices calling
Distant stars are falling
Distant drums are beating
Distant hearts lie bleeding.
We were hanging
at the end of a rope
in front of the mob
We were praying
for a ray of hope
a sign from god
Our hearts were broken
when we were young
yet felt so old
Then we were woken
to the beat of the drum
to rock and roll.

No one knows
Just where you came from
No one knows
What, how and why
No one knows
Just where you go to
No one knows
When you die
CHO
But (2 Yeah) I’ll tell you
I’ll sell you
My incredible ideas
My visions
And revelations
Just sign here
Yeah I know everything
About everything
It’s all so perfectly clear
my dear
For every question
You could ever ask
For every mystery
I’ll remove the mask
All the answers
Each single one
Will ring true and bright
As the midnight sun
BRI
And you’ll wonder
What all the fuss was about
And you’ll wonder
Why no one else figured it out
And you’ll marvel
At the transcendental clarity
And you’ll marvel
At the nothingness of infinity
At the moment within eternity
At the grandeur and elegant simplicity

All She Said

All She Said
I heard a voice in the desert
It was feint but crystal clear
It warned tough times were coming
And I ought to get out of here
Yeah the sun was beating down
Sand whipped across my face
My vision became all blurry
My heart began to race
And the voice kept getting louder
Saying “Act now or you’ll be dead”
As I took cover in the sandstorm
And that was all it said.
I heard voices in the crowd
Amid the turmoil and unrest
Each one was yelling loud
“In God’s name we do protest”
But the guards all stood their ground
Assault rifles in their hands
Ready to do the devil’s work
Just waiting on his command
When the preacher shouted shoot
The crowd yelled “Free or dead!”
Then came the fire and tear gas
And that was all they said.
I heard a voice in the distance
It was calling “Help me please!”
Through the chaos and mayhem
Through the hell God’s men unleashed
So I clambered across the wreckage
Scrambled through barbed wire
Summoned every ounce of courage
And sprinted through the fire
Until I saw her lying there
With a voice of sorrow and dread
She cried “You’ve come too late for me”
And that was all she said.

Standing Alone
05:01
|
|

Standing alone
Just me and Mother Earth
And her heart of stone
Guess we got what we deserve
REF
Just standing alone
Walking alone
Along a bustling street
A long way from home
Nothing left to eat
Sitting alone
In a crowded room
In a world of our own
Where no one sings in tune
Fighting alone
In a distant dominion
A soldier unknown
From a forgotten kingdom
Struggling alone
Against the tide of opinion
Outcast and overthrown
For something I believe in
Waiting alone
Outside your wooden door
The path overgrown
With memories from years before
Praying alone
Calling your name
But nobody’s home
Don’t know why even I came

Half the Man

Half the Man
CHO
Oh I’m not half the man my father was
And I’m not half the man I could be
Given half a chance to start again
I’d change everything about me.
He was a strong and silent man
he survived the Second World War
and he survived the bitterness
of having nothing left to fight for.
With his bare hands he built our house
and worked day and night to feed us
he picked us up and set us down
where we could enjoy our freedom.
Oh I could be a millionaire
I could be so very famous
a pillar of society
or I could be wild and dangerous.
But I am just the man I am
Yet nobody can replace me
not 1000 men rolled into one
when my wife and child embrace me.
CHO, with last line:
I’d change not a thing about me

Watching Disneyland

Watching Disneyland
CHO
There’s nothing like watching Disneyland
When the hero’s back’s to the wall
My babies they cuddle up ‘n hold my hand
As their baby tear drops fall
There’s nothing like watching Disneyland
Nothing like it at all.
Our little hero is lost
It’s dark and cold
And the wolves are beginning to howl
The baddies are catching up real fast
It looks like he’s done for now
He climbs a tree to the very top
There’s nowhere else he can go
Down swoops an eagle
And picks him up
And carries him safely home
Saying you are the boy
Who put me back in my nest
When I fell many years ago.
There’s 101 Dalmatians of fun
And the tale of the Lion King
There’s Frozen and Mickey
And Thomas and Friends
And Bluey above everything
We’ve seen them all many a time
But that was a long time ago
My babies all have grown up and gone
They had to get on with the show
So every so often I watch the TV
But the tear drops are all my own.
BRI
Then just when I thought it was over
And this hero had met his end
My children had children
So we can watch them all over again.

Catch Up With Me
04:13

Catch Up With Me
There was a chill in the breeze
Blowing under the door
From across icy seas
With something I’d felt before
The misty air of loneliness
Forgotten crimes, spilt red wine
Broken hearts and bitterness
From a distant place and time.
CHO
I thought I’d left that all behind
And turned over a brand new leaf
But deep in the back of my mind
I knew one day I’d come to grief
And no matter how fast
No matter how far I flee
My past, at last
Would catch up with me.
It was a quiet coastal town
I was just passing through
But decided to stay around
For maybe a day or two
Somehow it felt like home
The home I never had before
How could I have known
Who’d come knocking at the door.
BRI
Was it ….
A past bearing memories I’d rather forget
A handful of trinkets wrapped in unpaid debt
A few crumbs of joy in a soiled serviette
A small glass of whiskey spiked with deep regret
A promise of passion from a kerbside silhouette
Or a perfumed blindfold and a last cigarette?
It was …
The child I had so long ago but never met.

Hear Me Out

Hear Me Out
Heard some whispers ‘round town
Something was up, something going down
Guess you’ve heard them all too
And aren’t quite sure what to do.
CHO
Just hear me out my sweetheart
It is absolutely nothing like it sounds
Please hear me out my sweetheart
I’ll tell you exactly what it’s all about
Just hear me out my sweetheart
It’s absolutely not how it might appear
Please hear me out my sweetheart
I’ll tell you exactly what’s going on here.
You read something that made you cry
But when I asked you wouldn’t say why
And I’ve read things that tore at my heart
When I looked deeper the words fell apart.
BRI
It’s hard to tell what’s right and what’s wrong
When someone you always trusted was lying all along
It’s hard to tell what’s false and what’s true
But something you can rely on is my love for you.

Hear The Voice

Hear the Voice
CHO
Let’s hear the voice
Straight from the heart
Let’s see the light
Deep in the dark
Tear down the walls
That hide the truth
That’s all they’re asking
Us to do
Let’s hear the voice
From me and you.
We sailed to these shores
Just a few lifetimes ago
As uninvited guests
In someone else’s home
And thought that we knew
What was best for one and all
Yet while we grew
We saw them stumble and fall.
The sins of our fathers
Left a stain on us all
We can turn a blind eye
Or answer the call
As they cry for forgiveness
From beyond their grave
Begging every one of us
To right their wrongs today.
