Coal Black

The Hell They Made Sweating like a pig, working like a dog Coughin’ up my guts in the thick brown smog Sun beating down on my sunburnt back Mouth full of ash and my face coal black. Dead heart o’ winter still it won’t cool down And hurricanes are howling through my home town Dying of thirst in the damned dry heat As the ocean rolls deeper into our main street. Cho Forests are burning Skies are red Billions of creatures Lie black and dead Billionaires sip Martini’s in the shade While we simmer slowly In the hell they made (rpt) Bri 1990 They ignored the facts, turned their backs said just relax 2020 They changed their minds accepted the signs but wanted more time 2030 They missed the goal lost control slid down the hole 2050 We’re here sweating We’re regretting Never forgetting That they didn’t care enough Do enough, fast enough

In Hiding 03:17
In Hiding I’m in hiding, keeping my head down low They’re sneaking’ n spyin’ whatever I do wherever I go Yeah they want me but I’ll never let em know Where n who I am The secrets of my (tortured) soul. Cho I’m a hunted man I’m a wanted man I’m a haunted man They could never ever understand. I’ve been running just as fast as the wind They’ve been searching sniffing out the places I’ve been I stay one step ahead and shed another greasy/smelly skin They hang it out to dry and then toss it in the (data)bin. Yeah it all started late last century And like most things began quite innocently Till they realised your private data was the next hot commodity Which they could trade on the black market covertly Or through multinational corporations legally While they lured us in with promises of prosperity And warmth and safety under a watertight blanket of Privacy But there are loopholes in this blanket that lurk invisibly Among the forest of words swamped in complexity Yet they know where they hid them quite deliberately And the data they have on you grows exponentially Till they know your body, your mind, your soul intimately. But I’m not gonna let ‘em - are you? No I’m not gonna let ‘em - are you? I’m never gonna let ‘em - are you? Never ever gonna let em - are you, you, you and you?

Steelworks and Guitars Took up my position in a rock and roll band Fifty bucks a gig, hard cash in the hand Played parties, pubs and clubs around the old steel town She was pumpin’ out the iron, we were pumpin’ out the sound CHO And it was hot, rock ‘n rollin’ Sweat ‘n passion, power overflowin’ The dance floor jumpin’ up ‘n down With beer and smoke swirlin’ ‘round Our heads and hearts up in the stars Young and full of who we are Steelworks and Guitars, steelworks and guitars. Each mornin’ caught the bus and clocked in at the gate Dirty chimneys high above watchin’ every move we made Chasing cranes, feeding hoppers, fetchin’ this that and the other And when the day was done I was back with my brothers. BRI Now the steelworks shut down and the band’s broken up My guitar sits in the corner out of tune and unloved But her timbers still remember where both of us were born In the belly of a furnace, in the darkness before dawn.

Hear the Call (you know it’s right) 1 A battered soldier, a broken window Battle scars beneath a tattered shirt Frozen eyes, racing heart Blood dripping into foreign dirt. 2 A broken promise, a windswept beach Dreams crumbling in trembling hands Torn up letters tossed out to sea Tears soaking into shifting sands. CHO Hear the call, open wide Hear the call, mmm you can’t hide Hear the call, ah you better choose your side Hear the call, it’s time to stand and fight. Loud voice, inside Hear the voice deep inside Calling out to you and I Deep down you know it’s right Deep down you know it’s right Clear as, daylight It’s so clear in the cold daylight Calling out to you and I Deep down you know it’s right Deep down you know it’s right Waves roar, turning tide The waves roar at the turning tide Calling out to you and I Deep down you know it’s right Deep down you know it’s right Drums pound, all night The war drums pound through the night Calling out to you and I Deep down you know it’s right Deep down you know it’s right 3 Hungry crowds, angry streets Freedom fighters, true and good Rainbows bridging black and white While hard facts are trodden underfoot. 4 Will you just sit, refuse to hear Close your eyes and refuse to see Will you just turn, without a care And walk away from me? FIN - CHO then The bugle cries deceit and lies The sickle slashes all down to size Ignore the science ignore the wise The screen is buzzing with blowflies Bleeding hearts are bleeding life A hundred chances march right by The rich get fat off humble pie A million starve a thousand die The vultures dance the eagles fly The old refuse to say goodbye The cops say jump we say how high Not knowing when to laugh or cry Chained and locked to all we buy Freedom floats off in the sky The forest burns the oceans rise Wildlife extinct before our eyes It all boils down to you and I Yeah it’s all down to you and I Hear the voice, hear the call Deep down you know it’s right!

After School 03:57
After School Pushing, fighting, kicking, screaming Hiding in the toilet block Chasing, catching, falling, bleeding Running out of luck A school yard full of future heroes dying to explode Each morning man we’d light that fuse and just wait for it to blow CHO Let’s settle the score, cut the crap, just me and you I’ll meet you babe around the back, after school, yeah after school. By dual exhaust and allow wheels We’d smoke and drink and laugh As the whole damned world became unreal We got the guts to call its bluff Then in a convoy of steel and chrome dragons breathing fire Around midnight man we’d all race home, empty handed, sick and tired. BRI On weekends we’d cruise Highway 1 Pull over at a beach Making jokes about those gorgeous girls Who all stayed out of reach If I’d known then what I know now I’d have known just what to do That time you met me ‘round the back, after school, yeah after school.

Not So Bad 03:10
Not So Bad Got my hair slicked back Black sun glasses on Shaved close and clean Blink ‘n I’m gone In my dark blue suit Silk white tie White leather shoes I’m stepping outside CHO I’m cool I’m hot I’m fast I’m not So bad So bad Deep down I’m good On this city’s back streets I’m hard at work On silver alloy wheels In my snow white Merc I turn the leather steering wheel To find the quickest way Through the rubble and ruins To live another day BRI Yeah people say I’m a bad bad man And you oughtta stay far far away But babe I gotta long term plan And I’ll come good some sunny day Yeah I’ll come good some day I’ll come good some day Some sunny day.

Intro Chant: It’s gettin’ hotter Gettin hotter fast We drive our cars to work each day Pumping out the fumes Use so much electricity Only power stations bloom Slash and burn the forests So we can grow more food With so many mouths to feed Hey what else can we do Cho: This place is getting hotter You can feel it in the air This place is gettin’ hotter And buddy don’t you care Everybody we just gotta Cut down on all this gas Cos this place is gettin hotter (gettin hotter) Gettin hotter fast Yeah this place is gettin hotter (gettin hotter) Gettin hotter fast. This problem is a tough one That cannot be denied And if we just ignore it Mother Nature will decide The answer really hurts When it stares us in the face There’s just too many people Wanting more stuff every day. Bri: It’s time to act in fact We’re already overdue - We got too many people This world has had enough Eating way too much food This world has had enough Burning too much fossil fuel This world has had enough Creating too much garbage This world has had enough Killing too many of God’s creatures This world has had enough And burning far too many bridges This world needs our love.

Three Square Meals Look at any freeway, the cars are in their lanes In the concrete jungle, the gorillas are tame Look in any office and you will see People in their boxes like you and me. CHO But we’re just 3 square meals a day away from anarchy Yeah just 3 square meals a day away from anarchy I used to be a hunter and chase wild game Now I chase the dollar, it ain’t the same I used ride a Harley and rock all night Now a drive a Volvo and sleep real tight. BRI You might wear a tie, you might wear a suit And act all civilized and play it cute But that won’t wash when the cupboards bare And there’s hungry mongrels everywhere, we’re, we’re We’re just 3 square meals a day away from anarchy.

All appears quiet on the eastern front To be back home with you is all I want Leafing through the pages of feelings that were lost Through all those years of fighting Oh god, we paid the cost. And I say please, please Race with the devil my friend And tell her I'm almost home I've come so far and fought so long Won't surrender now.
10.
The earth is shaking across the water Nobody's moving, obeying orders They're just sitting there on the border Playing it cool, cool, I think we oughta Get on our feet before it's too late to run It's not a dream, listen to the guns Someone said it's just for fun Are they all crazy or am I the one? And while I'm gone I pray you protect my children They don't know yet what the hell's comin' Lot of wolves in this world Who'd try to hurt 'em But not here, no not ever, not now!

Nothin’ But An Animal Kids yellin’ bells ringin’ time to get to work Gotta pay for all the pretty things forget how much it hurts Just take it like a man and do the best you can. CHO They say he’s a beast, nothin’ but an animal Prowling in the alley like a dirty rotten criminal Jungle animal, animal jungle, jungle animal, animal jungle They say he’s a beast, nothin’ but an animal Howling down the valley in his hotted up convertible. Sit down, jump up, fill another coffee cup Spend a dollar, save a cent, till you think you’ve got enough To make your stand, it’s part of your plan. The sun never shines in the alley where he lives And the rain if it falls becomes a dirty kind of mist Where the bad boys hide and the cops stay outside. He owes no one nothing so they leave him alone In his beat up old caravan he calls his home With a funny kind of pride, with the door open wide. BRI He says your freedom lies just around the bend Still it’s out of the reach of ordinary men But if you care and if you dare, he can take you there You just gotta let him, just gotta let him, just gotta let him in.
